China gives P15 Million for the rehabilitation of Marawi City.
China has donated P15 million to the Philippines for the relief and rehabilitation efforts for Marawi City.
In a statement, Malacañang said President Rodrigo Duterte and Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo accepted the check for the donation from Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jinhua.
The aid came just as Duterte announced his intent to help Marawi bounce back, as more than a month of firefights between government troops and terrorists have left parts of the city in ruins.
The assistance is expected to "significantly augment the resources of the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)," which are leading efforts to address the needs of those displaced by clashes in the city.
More than 240,000 persons have been displaced by the clashes as of early June, according to the crisis management committee of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
“The said donation from China to the Philippines is an example of the flourishing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment towards sustainable peace in the region,” the Palace statement said.
The P15-million aide, Beijing will also be extending military assistance to aid the troops in their pursuit of the Islamic State-inspired terrorist groups.
As of June 26, Social Welfare had already spent P85.53 million for provisions like food packs, hygiene and dignity kits, kitchen utensils and tents for the affected families.
The Health department has spent P52.03 million for health services including medical check-ups, immunizations, medicines, mental and psychosocial services as well as food and water.
Some 82,767 families or 403,052 people from Marawi have been displaced by the crisis, including residents from 20 Lanao del Sur municipalities and two Lanao del Norte municipalities.
